March 5, 1770Chrispus Attucks, a black man, was one of the first Americans to die in the beginning of the American Revolution

March 6, 1775Prince Hall and 14 other free colored men were initiated to the Irish Army Lodge #441

July 4, 1776The 1st Contential Congress meets to sign the Constitution of the United States of America

January 13, 1777Prince Hall and 8 other black men sign a petition requesting the Massachusetts state legislature to abolish slavery, being that it is incompatible to any patriotic cause.

March 2  and Jun30, 1784African Lodge #1 applied to the Grand Lodge of England for a charter

September 29, 1784A charter was granted for African Lodge#459. This order was executed by the authority of the Duke of Cumberland, the Grand Master of the Mother Grand Lodge in England

January 4, 1787Prince Hall and 11 other black men, petitioned the House of Representatives proposing legistature which gave Negroes, who found themselves in a very intolerable circumstances of inequality as American citizens, a separate state abroad with its own Negro pastors and bishops.  With the assistance of money for congregations or direct passage assistance to Africa, money to purchase land, etc. , then colonize them to a more civilized way of life. The house defeated this novel request.

April 29, 1787Charter from Grand Lodge of England arrives in Boston.

September 17, 1787The U.S. Constitution was signed with the inclusion to count all slaves as three fifths (3/5) of a person.

October 17, 1787Prince Hall petitions the Massachusetts legislature for a means to be provided for the education of Negro children, since their parents (as free people of color) were taxed as were white people. The request was denied.

December 4, 1807Prince Hall dies.

1808African slave trade prohibited, but continues illegally. In December of this year African Grand Lodge #1 was organized.

1820Missouri Compromise

1822Slave revolt led by Denmark Vessy in South Carolina

1828John Quincy Adams defeated for Presidency, in part because of his stand against slavery.

April 12, 1861Fort Sumpter in Charleston, South Carolina is fired on by Gen. Pierre Beauregard. United States Civil War begins.

January 31, 1865The 13th amendment to the US Constitution is ratified abolishing slavery.

June 19, 1865General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrive on Galveston Island to take possession of the state and enforce slaves' new freedoms contained in "General Order #3".

August 19, 1875Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Texas is organized at Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Brenham, Texas

January 19, 1876First officers of Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Texas installed by Grand Master Matthews.

1925Grand Lodge changed its name to the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge and its Jurisdiction, F&AM, Inc.
